Graduate Degree Plan (GDP)/GPAS Planner

Graduate Degree Plan (GDP)

Those admitted prior to Fall 2019 need to submit a Graduate Degree Plan (GDP) by October 15 of their second year. The student will put together their coursework and fill out the Graduate Degree Plan form (GDP) with their advisor. If you have a designated minor, you will also need to consult with the DGS of that program concerning the courses for the minor.

When you have draft of the form ready, email the pdf or bring a printout of it to the GPC who checks it and then returns it to you. If there were any changes that needed to be made, revise the form and then get your advisor’s signature (and the DGS of the minor field if you have a designated minor), then give it back to the GPC (320 Folwell) who will send it on. It can take up to a month (sometimes more) before your GDP gets into the system, so do not put it off to the last minute.

Guidelines

For M.A. and Ph.D. students:

  • Only graduate-level courses should be included on the form (5xxx and 8xxx courses; specific 4xxx courses).
  • 4xxx-level language courses should NOT be included.

For M.A. students:

  • Not every course you take needs to be part of your M.A. program. If you decide to go on to the Ph.D. and are admitted, you may use any extra courses for your Ph.D. program.
  • Leave the "Language Requirement" box blank on the M.A. program form.

Graduate Planning and Audit System (GPAS) Planner

All students admitted to a program Fall 2019 and after will need to complete and  submit a Planner in the Graduate Planning & Audit System (GPAS). The GPAS system allows graduate students to plan future coursework and view student degree progress.

The GPAS Planner should be submitted no later than one semester before the MA examination is to be taken. It is the responsibility of the student to submit their Planner in a timely fashion. First, the student should schedule an appointment with their  advisor to review their planned courses. Before completing the GPAS Planner, the student should meet with the GPC to go over course placement and course requirements by October 30th of their second year in the program.

The GPAS Planner can be accessed by going to your MyU page and clicking on the Academics tab. You will then select the Degree Progress tab at the top of the page, and then the GPAS link at the bottom of the page. These directions, along with further information, are available on OneStop’s website.
